内容
　バロウズのベストセラー『類人猿ターザン』を忠実に映画化。ターザンを単に英雄にした従来の作品とは異なり、シリアスなドラマとなっている。
　名門グレイストーク家の子ながら、アフリカで猿に育てられたターザンは、やがて密林の王者となった。しかし、ひとりの男を助けたことからグレイストークの家へ帰ることになる。文明や社会の規律と本能の間で苦悩するターザン。だが自分を育ててくれた父猿が射殺され、ここは自分の住む世界ではないと気づくのだ。
　愛する者に背を向け、密林に帰っていくターザンの姿は悲しくも美しい。リック・ベイカーによる表情豊かな猿のメイクも、野性の純粋さを強く訴えている。
